Let 'Em Rumble

Prez debate moderator Jim Lehrer is taking a lot of guff for allowing Romney and Obama to actually debate each other, mostly (but not exclusively) from Obama supporters. Spencerblog believes Lehrer did a bang-up job, getting out of the way and letting the two go at it. Unfortunately for Team Obama, their fighter didn't want to. That's his fault, not Lehrer's.

Lehrer defends himself here.
"The first few times I said 'let's move on' and they wanted to keep talking, the inclination of course is to stop them so I could cover all the subjects I wanted to cover," he said. "But I'm sitting there thinking, 'Wait a minute, they're talking to each other, leave 'em alone.' So I backed off."
He'd get much harsher criticism if he prematurely stopped discussions, he said.
"Not only that, but I would have deserved it," he said.
Spencerblog completely agrees. Now, let's see what the "moderators" in the upcoming debates do. Will they try to make themselves the story. Or will they let the candidates have at each other? We're rooting for the latter.
